• I took over management of an existing site. I noticed that the “categories” sub-menu item is missing from the “posts” menu in the admin dashboard. Is it possible that the previous site manager disabled this feature, and is there an easy way to re-enable it?

  • As far as I know there is no way to do this in the admin panel, but you can do this easily with code. So it’s possible that your theme or a plugin has removed the post category connection.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn’t appear that any plugins are involved. Could be the theme, and I will investigate that. Is it possible that something is hard coded into the php?

If it’s in the theme then yes it would be coded into the php. And this isn’t something that really happens by accident, if they disabled categories they probably did it for a reason, although I could only speculate what that reason was.
