Had some issues the other night with space, so I contacted my host to see what the issue was. Long story short, we ended up adding more space in my /home partition.

NOW, my tags and categories have completely disappeared in my dashboard. When I edit the post, the tags are gone from there, too. When I edit the post to add tags back and update… they don’t stay. POOF, gone. Over 10K posts over 6 years.

I just don’t know if this is a temporary hiccup, or if they’re gone for good.

    Anyone?

  • Talk to the host; they made the last changes to your hosting account. Could be related to the temp directory being full; WP can’t write metadata.

It’s possible they need to restore a database backup; tags and categories are metadata stored in the database.

If they don’t have a backup, and you don’t have your own, you should: https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=backup

Just started a chat with them, hopefully this is something they can do, and something that will correct the issue.

    Thanks, I’ll report back ASAP!

Third time with hosting company is the charm. /tmp folder was full, despite two people telling me it wasn’t.

    FIXED!
