I’ll echo the kudos of others that this plugin is a godsend.

A couple of quick questions regarding categories and permalinks:

1. If %category%/%postname% is used for the site permalink structure, including “/category/” as a filter permalink will match for all archive pages. Is it possible to set a wildcard to match the fully normalized post urls when the top level “category” prefix is not included in the link or would these need to be set separately? (ie. domain/[gm]/cadillac/news-article)

2. If the top level category is removed when rendering the permalink structure (using a plugin fix or “.” as the category base), how do you set the filter link so that it will match for archives and posts? (ie. when domain/category/gm/cadillac/news-article maps to domain/gm/cadillac/news-article).

Wildcards are not possible. You would have to have the category name in the permalink to target a specific category.

Ok, thanks for the follow-up.

For scenario #2, is it possible to eliminate the “category” literal from the %category%/%postname% permalink structure and still match for the filters?

I did a quick experiment and it appeared that this was going to present an issue.

A plugin filter must exactly match the url being accessed unless fuzzy url matching is used. Then it starts with the url being accessed and works its way back through the directory structure. So if you accessed http://www.yoursite.com/category/gm/cadillac/news-article/ it would start by looking for http://www.yoursite.com/category/gm/cadillac/news-article/. Then it would look for http://www.yoursite.com/category/gm/cadillac/. Next it would look for http://www.yoursite.com/category/gm/. Then http://www.yoursite.com/category/. And finally http://www.yoursite.com/. If you are changing the url with a rewrite rule you should use a 301 redirect. I think that will actually change the url being accessed and then http://www.yoursite.com/gm/cadillac/news-article/ would become the url.
