[Resolved] Catablog Gallery Customization

  • Hello. I’ve been fooling around with catablog.css trying to get the gallery page customized. Unfortunately I’m not a CSS expert and am having a slow go at it. Basically I want to do 2 things:

    1) Add a 1px black boarder around each gallery image. (which CSS field do I edit?)

    and

    2) Make it so the rollover “shadow” covers the entire 100×100 px thumbnail. This is what I have so far (lines 77-90, see below), and this is the result. I’ve been fooling with the fields, but I can’t make the purple shadow cover the whole thumbnail. Thanks for any suggestions!

    }
    .catablog-gallery.catablog-row .catablog-title {
    	display: none;
    	position: absolute;
    	bottom: 0px;
    	left: 0px;
    	color: #fff;
    	background: purple;
    	opacity: 0.1;
    	margin: 0 !important;
    	padding: 5px;
    	font-weight: normal;
    	font-size: 0em;
    }

    You only want to override the specific CSS properties that you need to change, not all of them. Try putting this code into your theme’s styles.css file or create a catablog.css file in your theme’s folder. Never ever directly modify the plugin’s catablog.css file, as your changes will be overwritten the next time you upgrade.

    .catablog-gallery.catablog-row {
      border: 1px #000 solid !important;
    }

    .catablog-gallery.catablog-row .catablog-title {
      height: 100px !important;
      background: purple;
      opacity: 0.1;
    }

    Got it to work, thanks so much!

    I will eventually figure this out but the quick answer is to ask.
    If I wanted to CENTER the row.. rather than have it be left, what would I do? In the catablog.css…
    .catablog-gallery.catablog-row {
    float: center !important;
    }
    or
    .catablog-gallery.catablog-row {
    padding: 50px !important;
    }

    trial and error should I not hear from you.. thanks

    I’m not sure exactly what file your are planning on editing, but you should know to never edit the catablog.css file in the plugin’s folder, instead make your own catablog.css file in your theme’s directory or add your CSS modifications to your theme’s style.css file instead.

    That being said I am unsure what you want to center? Do you want the text centered? Do you want the entire catalog row centered? If you decide to center the entire row you will need to set a fixed width. Here is an example CSS modifier class for CataBlog.

    .catablog-row {
      width: 200px;
      margin: 0 auto;
    }

    or perhaps this is what you want

    .catablog-row.catablog-gallery {
      text-align: center;
    }

    Also, there is no center value for the float property, it only accepts left, right or none. I recommend learning more about CSS at the w3schools or using a tool such as Firebug for exploration / self teaching.

    yes, thank you I will eventually learn CSS. right now, I just like to cheat.
    there are 4 columns of pics in a row, but there is a big open space to the right on the page. Now, I could figure what the thumbnails would need to be to divide up the space so that 4 fit evenly on a 940 width page, or I could learn CSS. I just thought that while I was learning, I could maybe get a quick answer.
    thanks for your help. I know it is not your problem here.

    You could also try the newer, but not as well supported (old browsers are my bane) display method known as inline-block. But I am guessing that either the “big open space to the right” is from either an encapsulating element or a right margin. CataBlog does not have a very large margin by default in the gallery view, so I am doubting that it is the second. Are you sure you are not putting your gallery into a HTML element that is not the full width of your page?

    Hi Zach,
    I am having trouble with the gallery feature. I added the short code and the display is fine on the page, when an item is clicked it pops up in a lightbox as a larger image, but twice (in a vertical line one on top of the other)with the product description over the second image (mostly illegible due to the image colors behind the white text).

    Once the lightbox is active, the next button doesn’t work, and when the close (X) button is clicked it displays a black screen and I need to refresh the page to get back to the original post.

    Is there something wrong with my plugin or could my theme be affecting the way the lightbox is viewed/functioning?

    Here is a link to the page I am referring to: http://comparezeoliteproducts.com/liquid-products/

    Please help!

    Hi bzupka,

    The problem you are experiencing is from the LightBox being setup twice and therefor causing it to run its scripts twice when you click an icon. This is most likely due to your theme.

    – Are you running wp_footer() twice in your theme? If so you should only have it once, right before the end body tag </body>

    – Besides being at the end of your file, like it should be, the CataBlog LightBox JavaScript is also the first child of your main div <div id="main"/>, remove it and your problem should go away.

    Thanks! I think I got it to work.
