 * Hi,
 * I noticed that WordPress URLs on my website as well as on WordPress.org are not
   case sensitive.
 * e.g.
    [https://wordpress.org/download/](https://wordpress.org/download/) [https://wordpress.org/DOWNLOAD/](https://wordpress.org/DOWNLOAD/)
 * Can we understand the reasoning behind it?
 * Google says a canonical URL is a ‘strong hint’ that the content is the same and
   only show one URL in it’s index but I’ve been told it does not mean the same
   100% of the time.
 * I’m guessing there might be some misunderstanding or the benefits of having case-
   insensitive URLs outweigh the cons (if any) of having two different URLs with
   correct canonical set.

 * WordPress adds a canonical image meta, so Google is not “fooled” by how you present
   the URL.

 * There were concerns raised by an SEO agency at our end and they are asking us
   to make the URLs case-sensitive.

 * That will break all sorts of stuff. WP lowercases everything internally.

 * Actually, my bad. They had actually suggested to 301 redirect any urls with CAPS
   to lower case and not make them case sensitive.
 * Even that feels odd and could break things or cause unexpected issues.
 * e.g. what if someone intentionally puts a capital letter in the post slug?
 * Canonical would point to something.com/ABC/ but that would redirect to something.
   com/abc/
 * Thanks for mentioning why slugs should not be made case sensitive.

 * post slugs are lowercased
