Support » Plugin: WooCommerce Cart Stock Reducer » Cart Stock Reduction + Allow Back Orders

  • Hi!

I am finding that allowing backorder in WooCommerce in tandem with using this plugin to reduce displayed stock on the front-end shop does not appear to work for me the way I would like it to.

What I would like to happen is:

    Scenario A
Item 63-1003 has 2 in stock but is available on backorder as well.
Bob places 3 in his cart, and is notified that 1 is on backorder but the other 2 are available immediately.
    Bob checks out.

    Scenario B
Item 63-1003 has 2 in stock but is available on backorder as well.
Bob places 2 in his cart.
Jane is notified that 63-1003 is on backorder. She places 3 in her cart.
Both Bob and Jane are able to check out.

    What is happening is:

    Scenario A
Item 63-1003 has 2 in stock but is available on backorder as well.
Bob tries to place 3 in his cart. An error message saying “Item cannot be backordered while there are pending orders” appears. This item does not exist in anyone else’s cart and has not been ordered before. Bob cannot have any more than 2 in his cart.

    Scenario B
Item 63-1003 has 2 in stock but is available on backorder as well.
Bob places 2 in his cart.
Jane goes to the item which should be available for backorder and is greeted with a message that says “This item is not available at this time due to pending orders.” instead.
Bob is able to check out. Jane cannot order an item which should be allowed on backorder.

Is this intended functionality or am I missing a setting somewhere? I have verified that the part has “Allow Backorders” enabled. My business works in a way that products are largely made to order (on “backorder”) but we keep some in stock for “Quick Ship”. It is not uncommon for one order to use stock and made-to-order units of the same product and I would like to be able to reflect that in my shop online.

    TIA!

Originally the plugin did not support backordering at all, the way it works now was the easiest way to allow some type of backordering. If someone wants to code up a patch to adjust the functionality I’d be happy to consider the patch.

There is a github issue open github issue open but unless someone else develops a solution it’s not likely I’ll have free time to implement it anytime soon.
