Support » Plugin: CAOS | Host Google Analytics Locally » ‘Capture outbound links’ right click behavior problem

With ‘Capture outbound links’ enabled, right clicking opens the link url immediately in the same window. This happens on Chrome, Firefox and Edge. This happens on all pages. Disabling the option in the CAOS Extensions tab stops the unexpected behavior.

I hadn’t noticed this before, as generally I’m viewing the site logged in. It could have been here for a while.

I’m also running Async JavaScript and Autoptimize. I excluded my renamed analytics.js from all optimizations, but still get the unexpected behavior.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi!

I’m having a hard time reproducing this issue. Does Autoptimize or AsyncJS offer an option to exclude inline scripts? If so, you could try excluding _caosLt from the optimization.

Anyway, I’ve added a listener to stricty listen to left-clicks (event.which === 1) so that should take care of the issue anyway 🙂

It’ll be included in the next release!

Great to hear. Looking forward to it!

Those plugins only act on linked scripts and styles. They don’t touch anything inline. I’ve got a few other inline JS bits that work as expected.

One question, though. Does that mean that the tracking in the next release will only capture left clicks, or will it still include right click to open in new tab? (The latter behavior was what led users to discover the issue.)

I’ve looked all over the web, but I couldn’t find any solution that would actually track clicks within a context menu (to select ‘open in a new window’), so unfortunately I have to say that that’ll probably never work.

Got it. Thanks for looking into it.

Thanks for all your work on this plugin. It makes life, one piece of it at least, so much easier!
