Can you show us a page with the problem? It might be a CSS problem, in which case the problem is easier to resolve.
Thanks Andrew. I’ve uploaded a temporary version of the page at http://ecooptimism.com/?page_id=5008. The first two images should have captions.

Can you try deactivating the Jetpack and RPS Image Gallery plugins to explore whether they could be responsible?
as you are using a plugin for the gallery, please consider asking in the corresponding forum at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/rps-image-gallery
the plugin seems to inject CSS classes like .rps-image-gallery-no-caption …
alternatively, try to create a gallery without the plugin.
Thanks Andrew & Michael.
Yeah, I wondered about deactivating RPS, but it worked fine on the “Wrongest Product” gallery. And also, would deactivating the plug in affect that existing page?
And, yes, I’ll also try posting on the RPS forum. I’d looked for that and not found it. Thank you for the link.

Deactivating the plugins will affect your page and maybe that’s a problem for you. It is however a quick way to narrow down the issue. You should be able to reactivate them straight afterwards.
So I deactivated RPS. The captions DO appear now, but on the existing page – the Wrongest Products – the links from the images to URLs in my site dropped out and, as far as I can tell, I don’t see a way when I go into edit to put links in. (In RPS, they were called something like Gallery Links.) That may have been why I installed RPS in the first place.
Am I just not seeing where to add the link?
Thanks.
