Caption not displaying for Smugmug

    For accessibility reasons I am adding captions to my photos from smugmug. However when I try to display these in a gallery on my site (see link) the captions are not added in to the img alt= tag of the thumbnail. So not when hovering because that shows a title for each photo even though only 4 are set with a title.
    Default setting in photonic setting is set to:
    “Use the photo description / caption. If blank use the title.”
    Gallery is generated with Default setting. When setting the gallery specifically to use the “Use the photo description / caption. If blank use the title.” setting it does retrieve the titles and set them as alt= for the img tag and for the link <a href title= tag.
    For the 8 photo’s I’ve set the first 4 with just a title “Fulco’s Lenteconcert 2025” and the last 4 with no title but only with caption “caption Fulco’s Lenteconcert 2025”. The first 4 populate the title= for links and alt= for img but the last 4 only set title= even though these photo’s don’t have a title set.
    Perhaps my expectation is wrong but when inspecting the photos I would expect the first 4 to show the title as img alt= and the last 4 the caption as name.

    Also tested with the setting “Always use the photo description / caption, even if blank” but then nothing is shown for all pictures. Both as default and specifically set for the gallery.

    Apologies for the delayed response – I have been out for the Thanksgiving break in the US.

    This is behaving as designed. When you select “Use the photo description / caption. If blank use the title,” it is first getting the information from the Caption field and if blank, it is pulling the information from the Title. The title goes to the alt tag – Photonic does not give you options to control that. The “caption” is what the lightbox and the tooltips display. The Photonic option is meant to control that aspect, not the alt of the image. So, if your title is blank, the alt is going to be blank.

    I will look at the behaviour for “Always use the photo description / caption, even if blank” once I have access to a computer.

    Thanks for looking into the other option. No rush, I was not using it until now but wanted to start using this option. If it takes some time that’s no issue at all. Already happy that you are looking in to this.
