# Captcha enabled by default

 * This is a nasty feature – captcha should not be enabled by default on forms.
   For others who’ve tripped on this, it may be disabled on the template but there’s
   a captcha tab at the top of each form where you find it’s enabled. Wasted a lot
   of time fixing this.

 * Hello [@seekbeacon](https://wordpress.org/support/users/seekbeacon/),
 * Thank you very much for using our plugin. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
 * The CAPTCHA was enabled by default in older versions of the plugin when forms
   were created, as this setting was configured as the default value of the corresponding
   database column. In recent releases, this behavior was changed, but your installation
   appears to predate that modification.
 * If you would like to disable the CAPTCHA for all forms at once, you can simply
   configure it in the **Default Settings** section:
 * ![](https://i0.wp.com/cff.dwbooster.com/resources/customer-support/2026/08/29/

    - Untick the “Activate Captcha by Default”
    - Tick the “Apply to Existing Forms” option.
    - Press “Update” button.
 * Once again, my sincere apologies for the inconvenience.
 * Best regards,

 * When I checked earlier today it was already deselected on default settings. But
   all the forms I had already created now had Captcha selected, I didn’t even know
   this feature existed, and I certainly didn’t want it. AFAIK this feature was
   only added a few versions back but I have only just noticed it appear on the
   forms. I have never selected this as the forms are calculators inside a course.
   An update obviously added it as selected – not good practice.

 * Hello [@seekbeacon](https://wordpress.org/support/users/seekbeacon/)
 * I understand your point. However, as I tried to explain previously, the database
   structure is shared across the different distributions of the plugin, and that
   column was configured as **true** in previous versions of the plugin.
 * If you want to deactivate the CAPTCHA in all forms at once, please leave the
   checkbox **unchecked**, select the option to apply the modifications to every
   existing form, and then click the **“Update”** button.
 * Best regards.

 * I found the same problem like [@seekbeacon](https://wordpress.org/support/users/seekbeacon/)
   already described.
   I also discovered a captcha by chance on my CFF form. And
   I’m very sure that I never configured a captcha. I also think that an update
   obviously added it as selected.And I agree: Not good practice.
 * Furthermore following the advice to use the option to apply the modifications
   to every existing form, I clicked on Update every form. Result: The captcha was
   gone. But after that my form looked terrible ugly. The whole design had changed.

   So for this case: Not a good advice.
 * In the meantime I was able to find the reason for the design change. The “Update
   every form” function also modified the template for the form. Unfortunately I
   didn’t remember my original used template, because I’m using this form for several
   years now. I had to try several template versions until I had the feeling, the
   form looks okay again.
   Result: Wasted time and a bad feeling.
 * Finally I hope my problem is solved and I need no further support.
   So this is
   more a report in order to warn other users.

 * Hello [@tooni](https://wordpress.org/support/users/tooni/)
 * Yes, I’m sorry—you’re right. The action applies all configured default settings
   to existing forms.
 * I’ll keep this in mind for a future plugin update. I’ll consider adding a checkbox
   next to each feature so you can explicitly choose which features should be applied
   to existing forms.
 * Best regards.
