 * There is already a hidden spambot field that will prevent most automatic/bot 
   form submissions.
 * There is currently no option for a captcha field, unless you want to code your
   own, in which case there are plenty of hooks through the main free plugin to 
   allow adding additional fields to the signup form (my own Custom Fields extension
   makes use of many of those hooks).
