Can’t work on my website anymore using the backend

    Hi all.

    I have been using the autoptimize-beta Version 2.4.0-beta-3 version.

    Some examples of what I can not do anymore:
    – save the widgets shifting (Widget Logic plugin ): I can shift them, but my changes are no more saved, automatically or manually;
    – upload images (images of all sizes download well, but the action ends with an “HTTP Error”);
    – access my image library (the loading icon of the library runs forever in an infinite loading loop);
    – search for new plugins from the classic interface of the back-end: once again, the loading icon runs forever in an infinite loading loop);
    – delete disabled plugins (error message: “Failed to delete: 0”);
    – make modifications with the WPBakery plugin (page editor): the text / images / etc block windows open well but do not display the contents anymore.

    weird ddayoverlordwebmaster.

    some feedback:
    * the create_function notices are of AO 2.3.x, there is no create_function in AO 2.4 any more
    * the notices are actually a mere warning of PHP 7.2 that create_function will not work in a future version, but this still works as expected now (multiple people posted about the notices on this support forum before, confirming all works).
    * AO does not do optimization on the backend and is not active except in the toolbar (the menu) and on its own settings-page
    * no idea about the sitepress-multilingual-cms notices in there, but I think this is unlikely to be the root cause

    and some questions:
    * how long have you been using AO (2.3/ 2.4)?
    * when have these issues started?
    * what did you do before the problems started?
    * what JS errors do you see on the browser console (because most if on all of what you mention is JS-/ Ajax-based)?
    * does disabling AO fix the issues?

    Thanks for the reply.

    * I am using AO for about 2 to 3 weeks now. I have tested the 3 previous versions of AO, but the error log remains the same.
    * These issues have started about 2 weeks ago.
    * Unfortunately, I can’t say what caused the issues, nor what I did before it started. I have tried with default WP theme and with disabling the different plugins one after the other, nothing helps.
    * These are the only errors I see on this error log.
    * Disabling AO did not help.

    OK, but can you open your browser console while doing stuff in the backend (and trying the broken things) and look for JavaScript errors there?

    A lot of the errors in there are from your browser’s extensions/ plugins, but

    TypeError: window is null

    could be our culprit.

    I think the next step is to enable script-debugging as per step 2 of “Diagnosing JS errors in the browser” (maybe also try step 1 “try in another browser” to see if that learns us something).

    “Diagnosing JS errors in the browser” corresponds to the instructions I followed to share the JS diagnostic.
    Content and errors are not different in other browsers.

    OK, but did you “enable script-debug” by adding

    define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);

    to your wp-config.php?

    OK, so:
    * is there any difference in the browser console output with and without script_debug on?
    * can you drill down on the TypeError: window is null, does this (with and without script_debug) point to a specific file or line?

    (to be clear; we’re not in autoptimize-support land any more, but hope to be able to help you or at least point you into a more specific direction)
