• I am setting up a Woocommerce site for a line of handbags and wallets and some of the items come in several different colours.

I want to be able to create an individual product for each different colour, and also create a variation within the products for each colour.

For example, if I have a handbag that comes in pink and black, I want to be able to list both colours as their own product (so that when people are shopping on the front end they see the colours side by side) AND within the product so that when you click on one of the colours you see the other colour also.

I find most fashion websites are able to do this, however I can’t figure it out without having to apply a different SKU for the same product, which will cause issues with my inventory management.

    Thanks!

SKU is a unique identifier, that why can’t have more than one product with the same SKU.

Best you create variables product for it.

    Thanks Claudio!

Yes, sorry it’s really hard to put into words what i’m trying to say.

I understand that re SKU’s. I basically want a way that I can have a product be a variable, and also be a product in it’s own right. But I also want to retain the same SKU for stock purposes.

Just say I have Product X in Colours Black and Brown. I want customers to see both product X’s colours in the categories page as individual products AND I want to be able to have a variation for Black in Product X’s Brown product and visa versa.

    Does that make sense?

It makes sense but the SKU won’t be reusable. Can you append something to the variation SKU e.g. SKUWHATEVER-variation

Did you find an answer to your question?

I’ve been having the same issue for months, shoes, 2 different colors, 2 ranges of sizes but this the same sku for 5-10 and then 11-14 have a different sku but the same for the size range. All I every got in response to my question is exactly what you received, you should change how you run your business not how to fix your problem.

I would appreciate it if you found an answer that you post it please.

ellenatwordpress you’re welcome to add a new field through customisation if you need to run dupe skus, or customise WooCommerce (at your own risk) to allow duplicates. That will impact some extensions but it’s your decision if you’re aware of the consequences.

If I am selling a dress, I want the different colors to be different sku’s. Even if I am on Variable Product, I do not see where to do that and I have watched a million videos.

any help would be appreciated, my customer has another 100 items I need to add!! And yes, I will be donating.

Thank you, Lorro and nr1stunna. I see where the SKU goes (above), but I think I would have to buy a plugin to manage the stock, for a different SKU for each colour.
    Variables screen
I have been researching https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/bulk-stock-management-2/ which looks like it might do the trick.
If you believe I am totally missing out on a Woocommerce feature that I have not figured out yet, I would appreciate either some further guidance or a link to a tutorial video. (I have been searching everywhere!) Thank you again.

WooCommerce will manage stock at variation level, providing you have unchecked “Manage stock at product level” on the Inventory tab. Its a core feature.

On the Variations tab, look at the form for each variation. The form has another checkbox: “Manage stock”. Its just below the red circle in the above screenshot. When that’s checked, a “Stock quantity” field for that particular variation will spring into view.

Still no need for another plugin so far…

I have found the answer!! Thank you so much for your patience.
