Can’t use Bold, Italics, etc. (quicktags) on Mac

  • A friend is using a Mac (OS X) with either IE 5 or Safari and can’t use the QuickTags in the edit post section of WP.
Can any Mac browser do the QuickTags?
I remember this same problem when I used MovableType, but there was a fix so that at least Mac users could use Mozilla.
What happens is that the codes (e.g. ) go to the bottom of the post. Sure, he could then manually put them in the correct location, but …
Or does anyone have any other suggestions? First edit in an HTML editor and then copy + paste into the WP post area, code and all?
    Thanks,
    – Bradley

  • You don’t even need an html editor. Type and then the text and then

I don’t have any trouble using Quicktags.
    Mac Os X (10.3.6)
    Safari 1.2.4 (v.125.11)
    are you up to date?

    Hi likoma,
I’m still using 10.3.5 until some widely reported troubles with 10.3.6 get ironed out (see macfixit.com, for instance), and my experience is like yours — Safari does not display the Quicktag buttons. Firefox, however, displays them just fine, so if you’re keen to do your writing in the WP window, I’d suggest giving FF a try.
Personally, for anything longer than the briefest of posts, I prefer to write in a fully-fledged editing environment and then copy & paste anyway — but it all depends on how you like to write.
    Good luck,
    Greg

Two friends tried the formatting buttons with Firefox on the Macs and it worked fine.

That is why Safari is excluded from the display of quicktags in 1.3a – Safari browsers do not play well with the javascript necessary for quicktags.
