Support » Plugin: WordPress Gallery Plugin - NextGEN Gallery » Can't Upload Photos

  • Hello everyone!

    I’m pretty illiterate when it comes to how wordpress works… I can basically get photos on there and write about them. I’m not a programmer….

    Anycase, I can’t upload photos from the nex-gen gallery: Add Gallery/Images: Add Files button. I have my nexgen preferences to size the uploads to 600×800 pixels. I drag my photos from iPhoto to the upload list, then click on Add Files button and each file goes through the upload progression, reaches 100%, then show’s a yellow warning triangle for each file, then I get an error message saying Upload Complete: 0 images were added.

    Frustrating. Dang. I’m using Safari, on an iMac running mavericks, 3.9.1 wordpress, 2.0.66 nex gen, server settings are:

    Operating System : Linux (32 Bit)
    Server : Apache
    Memory usage : 5.41 MByte

    @garybruckert – The first think I would look at is changing from the “Default” WordPress Permalinks structure (in your Dashboard under Settings > Permalinks) to something such as “Post name” or “Month name” then try uploading again.

    Either choice will be better in general for your site even if it does not help in this case as both are generally considered more SEO friendly.

    Thanks!

    damn, your fast. thanks! unfortunately, I tried post name and month name, but that didn’t work… but your suggesting I leave it as one of those?

    Thanks!

    @garybruckert – Yes, I would typically suggest one or the other, just remember to clear your image cache under Gallery > Other Options > Miscellaneous if you choose to change it in the future … just in case.

    I hadn’t actually tested dragging images from iPhoto into NextGEN Gallery to upload in the past so thanks for that idea … unfortunately it’s working just fine for me.

    Seeing how the theme you are using appears to be (initially?) generated by Artisteer, have you tried temporarily switching to a default WordPress Twenty series theme? You might also want to deactivate all plugins and then reactivate NextGEN Gallery only to test uploading again afterward.

    @cais.

    Thanks for your availability… I just tried to change themes and didn’t realize that would un publish my posts.. not sure how to fix that. any help on that would be great.

    Otherwise, I still can’t upload photos. any other ideas to fix that issue?

    Thanks.

    @garybruckert – Changing themes should not “un-publish” your posts. Although if you are using a theme supplied Custom Post Type (not recommended for this reason) then it would appear as though the posts were “un-published” … your only recourse, at least for now, would be to switch back to the theme you were using (and hope it is also not the cause of the issue with NextGEN Gallery).

    You should also still be able to check for plugin conflicts no matter the theme in use, did you see any thing there that made a difference?

    @cais.

    truly sorry for wasting your time here, my man. I appreciate your availability.
    So I changed back to my original theme. not sure of the details on that theme. It was designed by a friend of mines design/production company.

    It seems that the issue for the “un-published” posts was a result of changing the permalinks. Dang. anyway, i changed them back and everything is back to normal.

    However, normal also includes not being able to upload files. I found a switch under nexgen: other options: miscellaneous: Maximum image count. I set that to 100,000.

    Any ideas? something that might help here. About a year ago, I ran in to this problem. I was uploading images to get caught up on my posts and then all of a sudden, I couldn’t upload successfully. is there a way to remove nexgen then re-install without losing all of my galleries?

    Thanks!

    @garybruckert – Technically, with an update the plugin files are removed and then replaced with the latest version so deleting and reinstalling will be very similar in nature.

    You can also manually reinstall via FTP by over-writing all of the existing files and folders under the /nextgen-gallery/ folder.

    Either way, I would recommend making a verified full backup of your site just in case you run into any problems re-installing.

    Thanks!
