can't upload new theme that I purchased
What does it say and where are you uploading it?
It just says to “Try Again” after I hit install. I am uploading the theme in the Install Theme tab. It is a theme from Themeforest.
It actually says to upload a zip file, so I did that as well
Use an ftp client or the file manager in your hosts control panel to upload the entire unzipped theme directory only. Also, look in the unzipped directory on your desktop for a folder or file with theme usage and installation instructions.
If that doesn’t work for you, you will need to contact support where you purchased the theme for instructions and documentation specific to your theme.

Themeforest themes have never uploaded straight from the zip files for me. I’ve bought a number now and have had problems with their upload every time. Their support is sometimes quick to respond, sometimes slow. I’ve often had to ask my hosting company to install the theme(s) for me which, thankfully they’ve done, although it’s definitely not part of their service. Themeforest also don’t demand much accountability from their theme developers. I downloaded one theme that I had trouble with, and the developer never even emailed me back at all, despite multiple attempts!
It’s a shame because Themeforest have some great themes and they’re well priced. Come on TF, get your act together. I just bought another one of your themes and can’t upload it – again!
You need to upload the theme ZIP file itself. The ZIP file you uploaded is the entire package you get from ThemeForest which also contains any documentation, PSDs, etc. that the author included.

It makes reference to the “inner zipped folder” as the one I need to upload. Would you know if that’s the nevada or nevada-child folder? Those are the only ones that appear to be zipped. The rest just say “File Folder” and are things like backgrounds, documentation, licensing etc. Nevada is the name of the theme BTW.
Most Theme supplied from Theme Forest and other retailers of WP Theme’s will be supplied with other resources and zipped up. So if you unzip the file you downloaded the folder will probably contain psd’s and other resources along with a folder containing the actual theme… This is the only folder you need to upload (unzipped) via ftp to wp-content/themes/ directory. Alternatively the actual theme as a zipped file via your wordpress admin via themes in the menu.
Also is this a custom WP install on your own hosting or a WP.com hosted blog?
Thanks porter1985, I’ve now uploaded just the theme and was able to it via the WP uploader in the dashboard. Yes, this is a WP install on my own hosting (I have two VPS). Okay, seems to be working, I’ll let you know if I have more trouble. Thanks again!
I am unable to upload a new theme I purchased and have consulted an IT and he could not do it either. We have gone thru all the steps that were provided. How do I receive a refund? Cannot invest any more time on it.
