• Hey, I’m using WP 4.1 on my Mac OSX machine – using XAMPP and I can’t upload files to the ‘website’ thought the panel.. So Plugins & Themes can be uploaded manually, but the images & videos “Uploads” folder doesn’t even exist since there were no uploads..
It gives me the following error :

Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2015/02. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Please help,
    Good day
    -Nadav.

  • It’s probably an file ownership/permissions issue.

Shortest answer: you can try changing permissions on the /wp-content directory to 0777, then go back and try to upload a file to the media library. WordPress should then be able to create the uploads directory(ies) for you. You can change the permissions back after that if you like, but if you’re the only one using the localhost site for development purposes, and you aren’t contemplating opening it to the WAN you can leave the permissions at 0777. But never, 0777 for public facing sites.
