Can't update plugins or delete old themes

    Hi,

    I’m having some issues with a website I look after (website link here). It hadn’t be updated for some time, and some content needed to be added to it today, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to update WordPress, it’s plugins & the theme (Avada).

    WordPress updated fine, and it’s now running version 4.0

    For some reason though none of the plugins will update, and display the following message:

    Unpacking the update…
    Installing the latest version…
    Removing the old version of the plugin…
    Could not remove the old plugin.
    Plugin update failed.

    I also can’t remove any of the themes which are installed. I click delete, the page refreshes, and nothing has been removed. I’ve also tried to remove these themes (2011,2012,2013) manually via ftp and my control panel, but they just stay where they are.

    I’m very confused by all of this, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    try manual installing/updating via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides

    I’ve tried this, but it isn’t working.

    The same applies to the plugins as the themes. I try to delete them via ftp, it goes through the process, yet the plugin remains as it was before.

    I’ve tried to overwrite the files with new ones, and again nothing changes.

    Never experiences these issues before, very confused??

    Have you discussed this with your hosting provider as to why you are unable to delete these folders via FTP?

    No I haven’t, I’ll email them now and see if they can shed some light on the situation.

    Also, ask them what file management application they provide. It may be different than ftp (e.g., cpanel, etc.)

    Okay it appears my permissions had changed on the theme and plugin folders, strange as I didn’t change them, and no-one else has access.

    Fingers crossed this will work now!
