 * Hi [@marketingqhp](https://wordpress.org/support/users/marketingqhp/),
 * That error does not seem to be related to WPCode specifically but instead it
   seems to be an error with the permissions on your server. It’s likely that the**
   upgrade-temp-backup** folder can’t be created or the permissions for the folder
   don’t allow writing in it.
 * This is a change from WordPress 6.3 as explained in this article [https://make.wordpress.org/core/2023/07/11/new-in-6-3-rollback-for-failed-manual-plugin-and-theme-updates/](https://make.wordpress.org/core/2023/07/11/new-in-6-3-rollback-for-failed-manual-plugin-and-theme-updates/)
 * You can find solutions posted by others in this thread: [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/update-failed-could-not-create-the-upgrade-temp-backup-directory/](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/update-failed-could-not-create-the-upgrade-temp-backup-directory/)

 * i am having the same problem. update failed. could not move the old version to
   the upgrade-temp-backup directory. After that the plugin, Name of plugin, has
   been deactivated due to an error: Plugin does not exist.
 * Now the plugin is on the server in wp-content/plugins directory but not in my
   admin plugin list.
 * I notice that the plugin was left in this directory from a previous successful
   update. Could this be the reason for the error.? Why are successfully updated
   prior plugins now being left in this directory? However they are removed on a
   subsequent failed update of the same plugin.
 * plugin was leftover in upgrade-temp-backup after a successful update of same
   plugin. next time I update same plugin, update fails, plugin gone from upgrade-
   temp-backup directory, AND my admin list of plugins but still sits in wp-content/
   plugins, deactivated, gone from website.
 * upgrade-temp-backup and sub directory owned by daemon and 775 permissions.
 * How can I prevent this from happening when I update?
   How can I recover the plugin
   that is sitting in the correct directory but now not “seen” by wordpress? The
   documents you referenced are beyond my experience. Is there a simple way to get
   back to where I was? thanks.

 * Hi [@hmabpera](https://wordpress.org/support/users/hmabpera/),
 * That issue is not specific to WPCode and it’s related to the way WordPress handles
   updates in the most recent versions and an incompatibility or a temporary error
   specific to your setup.
 * You should be able to simply delete the WPCode plugin from the plugins folder
   and install it again from wp-admin > Plugins > Add new and get the latest version
   of the plugin.
