    Hello Community!

I´ve started to update the website of a relative and some problems i have never had before showed up.

The page is now 10 years old and was never updated or worked on since then. I tried to install a new theme which worked, but then the troubles began.

I wanted to start the step by step php and mysql update, first install a backup-plugin. Didn´t work with the error message: “The file could not be copied.”

Then i thought i start to update the plugins and the theme that are installed. Surprise, the same error message: “The file could not be copied.”

I could not find any solutions for my specific problem.

    Thanks in advance!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

It sounds like the folder permissions in the WP installation are preventing PHP from copying in new files. These can be verified and corrected through FTP or the hosting file manager. While it can vary by server, folder permissions on Linux servers are usually 755. The files within are normally 644.

If all else fails, you can manually backup the DB through the phpMyAdmin app. You can manually update WP files via FTP. The hosting file manager tends to be rather useless when bulk file operations are involved.
