    Dear All,

    I’m using the last WordPress version 4.9.5

    I would like to get verified with Google Search Console by using “HTML TAG” method like I have done in other websites.

    When I put the verification code in Appearance -> Editor -> head section … (following the google notice), I always get the notice

    “Something went wrong. Your change may not have been saved. Please try again. There is also a chance that you may need to manually fix and upload the file over http://FTP.”

    or

    “Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.”

    I got the same problem in 3 different websites

    Are there a solution for this issue ?

    Thanks

    Hello @nukool,

    It can be the permission issue. So try changing the theme File Permission to 755 or check the wp-config file for
    define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, true);

    Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks.

    Thank you for your help, As I have only an admin access to the website but not in the server, can we edit this directly in Appearance -> Editor section ? Where exactly I can edit for define(‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, true);? (I’m a new user for WordPress)

    If you in contact with Hosting, you can request them to set appropriate permission to the Theme.

    Further, you can find DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT in wp_config.php file, which you can access only if you have FTP Access,

    Thanks.
