Support » Plugin: wpForo Forum » Can’t turn off endless bot-triggered notifications

    Every time a Russian spam bot tries to create a user account in Foro, the plug-in e-mails a new user notification. So I was deluged with dozens of these worthless e-mails every day. No option to turn this off in Foro. Turning on the setting to require e-mail verification of the new user account request does not stop it because the notification is e-mailed when the bot requests. So no spam on the forum but the site administrator gets spammed. Had to uninstall Foro to restore my sanity. Ridiculous to have such a gaping hole in a product.

    Hi @worldfusionwisdom,
    Thank you for the review.
    However, your issue comes from WordPress core not from wpForo. This is not wpForo gaping hole. wpForo doesn’t have any relation to new user registration email. The email is sent from WordPress and WordPress doesn’t have an option to stop that email. wpForo is a forum plugin, it just provides you a nice registration form. All other functions are WordPress functions, we don’t overwrite those. So I want to ask you review this rating and follow to my instructions below:

    Solutions:
    1. Use WordPress plugins to disable the email:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-new-user-notifications/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/manage-notification-emails/

    2. Protect your registration form by Built-in wpForo reCAPTCHA, you can configure it in Dashboard > Forums > Tools > Antispam Tab

    Use other antispam methods:

    BTW. Please let us know where is your support topic?

    @worldfusionwisdom,
    Any response to my reply?
    I hope you see that you can disable the email and it’s not wpForo plugin issue. And we can’t find your support topic. Please let us know where you asked for support?

    This is not true. Both Foro and WordPress allows site owners to separate the registration and notifications protocols. We took advantage of that feature. We already have new user notifications turned off for our WordPress installation. Users can and did register only on Foro without creating an account on our WordPress installation. Other users can and do register only on our WordPress installation. So there were two entirely separate areas to which users can register and make comments: the posts and the Foro forum. Again, they are separate. We never received e-mail notifications when a user registers on our WordPress installation, only when a user or bot requested a Foro user account to comment on the Foro forum. So, sorry, you can’t “pass the buck” on this.

    Also, it is way too late to say “oh, we can sell you a plugin to stop the problem we created.” Not being spammed should be a basic feature on every plugin.

    My 1-star review stands. I was willing to put up with the many inadequacies of Foro but the notifications were too much and now your dishonest reply even further lessens my opinion of your company.

    @worldfusionwisdom,
    Thank you for the details, but it still doesn’t mean that wpForo is the email sender. On the separate website users register more because it’s forum. All is obvious. So please use the WordPress plugins to stop it. Why so much rudeness for this issue that can be easily fixed?
    Again. wpForo is not the email sender, and this is true.

    Also, it is way too late to say “oh, we can sell you a plugin to stop the problem we created.” Not being spammed should be a basic feature on every plugin.

    Sell plugin??
    I think you’re talking about other plugins. We don’t have any paid plugin for this and all what I suggested are free. The reCAPTCHA is a core free feature.

    And again, I’d like to see where is your support topic that we’ve not answered. And why you’re talking about some paid plugins which is not related to wpForo?

    I see looking back at previous threads that your company’s strategy is to harass people until they change their reviews. Not happening. But thanks for admitting that the registrations for Foro’s forum is separate from registering on a WordPress installation. Good day.

    P.S. – That Foro does sell additional plugins for their forum plugin is common knowledge and mentioned frequently on this forum. Please stop being dishonest.

    @worldfusionwisdom,
    We still love you, even if you’ve rated the plugin 1 star. I just want to stop incorrect information and make all clear.

    But thanks for admitting that the registrations for Foro’s forum is separate from registering on a WordPress installation.

    I’ve never said those are separate. Please stop this blaming and try to understand the issue. wpForo only provides registration form. Then it calls WordPress user registration function which does all other steps including the notification. So if your issue is the email notification you can disable it using my suggested plugins, because the function is WordPress core function. This is the reason why those plugins will help you.

    I see looking back at previous threads that your company’s strategy is to harass people until they change their reviews.

    Our strategy is to help you and solve your issue. And sometimes to provide you the real problem maker things. We’re here to help you. And Once your issue is solved you can change your review, that’s always appreciated.

    P.S. – That Foro does sell additional plugins for their forum plugin is common knowledge and mentioned frequently on this forum. Please stop being dishonest.

    We never do this. And we’ve never asked you to by any plugin to solve the issue the plugin caused. Please don’t do such incorrect blaming. This is not respectful to the hard work we do for you and for whole WordPress community.

    And as far as I see there were no any support topic and there were no any offer to buy a plugin to fix this issue. So I have to ask moderators look at this review. We love our users and do our best to help them. We’d really love to see you use the plugin and enjoy it.

    I have used WordPress for many years. I truthfully reported the problems I had with your plugin and why I had to uninstall it. Trying to harass me will not cause me to change my review.

    Thank you @worldfusionwisdom,

    As I said, trying to harass me will not cause me to change my review.

    We don’t need it for sure. You can keep it if it’s important for you.
    I hope the issue is resolved and you enjoy the plugin. If you have any other issue just let us know.

    Really?

    I’ve archived the last reply from you too. Stop with the links, you left a review though it may get archived as there’s no place on this site for anyone to attack anyone else.

    I’m closing this review from further comments and will ask another moderator if removing this back and forth would be appropriate.
