I have NextGEN 2.2.54, a recent upgrade, and WordPress 4.9.5. I’ve been running WordPress/ NextGEN and a set of plugins which haven’t changed, for a number of years.

I now can’t start a new gallery. I “Create New Gallery”, drag and drop files, which upload, then get an error –
“An unexpected error occurred. This is most likely due to a server misconfiguration. Check your PHP error log or ask your hosting provider for assistance.” I did this, and they can see an error, but suggested I ask here. I can’t see my php error file.

I tried uploading the images to the Media Library and that worked without a problem but I couldn’t move them to a gallery.

In Manage galleries, all the galleries show an error –
“Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home1/techops/public_html/next/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/admin/manage-galleries.php on line 284”

The site is tech-ops.co.uk, which is showing gallery output without a problem

    Thanks

    Bernard Newnham

@bern333 – Does the issue persist while temporarily using a default WordPress Twenty series theme and only NextGEN Gallery active?

Yes, I’ve just tried several. I updated some but not all, and there was no difference.

Would the version of PHP make a difference? I was moved from Ixwebhosting to Site 5 when they took over. I can’t remember whether this is the first time I’ve accessed the galleries since then.

@bern333 – Depending on how the services were “moved” a migration issue may have been introduced. Please try our external Reset Tool plugin here: https://bitbucket.org/photocrati/nextgen-gallery-reset/get/default.zip

To install and activate, go to Plugins > Add New … Upload Plugin
To use, go to Tools > NextGEN Gallery Reset

We do not offer specific support for the Reset Tool plugin as is but it can help in many circumstances, please let us know if it does.

    Thanks!

    Sadly it made no difference.

Would it work to download a complete version of NextGEN and overwrite the files?

@bern333 – If you are suspecting a possibly corrupted file in the installation that would be one of the better ways to correct for that scenario.

    Thanks!

How do I do it? How can I get hold of a clean version of the NextGEN files, and can I just overwrite the others.

I don’t suspect any particular thing – I don’t know enough about how the gallery system works.

    Back to this problem.
    This line –
    <td <?php echo $attributes ?>><?php echo esc_html( $author_user->display_name ); ?></td>
    causes an error –
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /home1/techops/public_html/next/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/admin/manage-galleries.php on line 297

I have no idea how to fix it. I’ve now done the latest upgrade and run the reset tool again. Didn’t work. If I knew how to do a clean reload without losing anything I would.

    Hi,

regarding this notice: Trying to get property of non-object in plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/admin/manage-galleries.php on line 297 I also have this problem and upon investigating what is causing this issue I found out that NextGen Gallery has table in database called someprefix_ngg_gallery and column Author with id of the user and when you delete user galleries which has his id will display this error.

If I change Author id in that table through phpmyadmin and set id of existing user there is no notice.

Maybe author of this plugin should check on user deletion to set new author like how it’s done with posts and pages, it would be great.

    Thanks.

Yes, I tried all that and it didn’t work for me either. I’ve switched to Foo Gallery
