Can't set static front page

  • This is a new one for me, suddenly WP won’t allow me to set a static home page, it dumps my static home page selection and reverts to “main page no parent” and continues to show posts an the front page as well as the posts page I created.

I’ve always had issues with 2 home pages showing when I try to make a static home page, as have many others, and I’ve never seen a resolution. My solution was to remove the title of the static page, which somehow causes the home page to use the static page. But now I can’t even get WP to take my static page settings..

    Help please!

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Yes, tried all your suggestions, no change. I’m really stumped, I still don’t understand why I have this “main page (no parent)” as a home page option when I never had it before..unless it came with the latest version of WP. ?

    thanks anyway!

Does your theme contain a home.php template file?

I had this issue as well and it ended up being the Private Suite plug in. I have posted in their support forum:

This may not be your problem but it does show that this issue is most likely caused by a plug in misbehaving.

yes, I discovered the same, however it appears the issue can be over come by switching to a static home page with the pluin disabled, then re enable the plugin. At least in my case this worked. It’s definately a bug with Private Suite, hope they can fix it.

Not using that Plugin, but I cannot get the static front page set that I want. I’m overlaying a WordPress build onto an existing old html site–do I have to remove something from the old code?

Here’s the page I want for home:

which I only created out of necessity when the page I’d created as “welcome” and then set in Settings->Reading->create a static front page would only bring me back to the home page of the existing non-wordpress site.

Thanks for any help you can give.
