Can't set front page to display a static page

The client site I’m working on appears to be functioning fine overall, except that I can’t update the Reading setting to display a static page as the front page. The option is there, and I can select the static page I want to use, and when I “save changes” I get the yellow confirmation box that says “settings saved”… but it’s not. The chosen page doesn’t display as the front page and when I come back to the Readings page to check it’s as if I never changed anything.

Caching is off for now, and I’ve tried deactivating all plug-ins. Nothing works.

Any idea what’s going on here? Is there a way to quickly go into the database and manually fix this so I can move on to other things?

    Have you tried:

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

After further tests I believe this is theme-related. I’ve put in a support request with the theme developer. Thanks!
