# cant select database error

 * I keep getting this error:
 * Can’t select database
 * We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and
   password is okay) but not able to select the wordpress database.
 *  * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed
   with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the
   problem?
 * I know that the database exists, and although it is one of those w/ the prefixed
   username, when i put in cheneyma_wordpress into the database field, i get a blank
   screen on the install.php. if i take the prefix away i get the error. and even
   though when i made the database i just called it ‘wordpress’ it comes up as cheneyma_wordpress.
   also, i installed the wordpress files into a folder called wordpress in the public_html
   directory. is that where they should have gone, or should they have been ftped
   right into the database??

 * Make sure the database name in wp_config.php is the same as what it actually 
   installed as and then post back here.

 * _is that where they should have gone, or should they have been ftped right into
   the database??_
 * That’s the perfect place – if you want your blog to be at and address like:
    
   example.com/wordpress
 * Don’t even try to mess around with the DB; acttually you can NOT ftp anything
   into it.

 * the database name is the same as what i put in the wp-config file. i have been
   looking at this for hours and i cannot see a problem anywhere. i even deleted
   the database and then made a new one again!!
 * i tried emailing those people to get them to install it for me, but i have gotten
   so far, and i have done this before nad not run into any problems. can any of
   you log in to my server somewhere and try to see the problem in my files??

 * Are you sure you have permission to select the database? If you are using CPanel
   to create databases you have to manually add users to it.

 * Usually no host lets you to _create_ DB in phpMyadmin – you just manage the DB
   with it.
    Databases (in my experience with hosts) are created in your site admin
   panel. Is it different on your host?
