Support » Theme: Twenty Fourteen » Can't remove the comment section/box from pages

  • Hello,
    I can’t seem to remove the comment section/box from the bottom of my contact page. I searched the forums but the general advice is listed below and I’ve tried that.
    I have edited “screen options” in WordPress at the top of page, and make sure ‘discussion’ and ‘comments’ are not ticked but this doesn’t seem to make any difference.
    I’m using a child’s theme based on WordPress’s default “twentyfourteen” theme. Website address is:
    I have also cleared the browser cache –by pressing CTRL 5 and by manually clearing the cache in Firefox options.

    Many thanks for your help

  • I’ve already tested switching off comments on a page using the same theme without any issues. What I suggest is to create a specific template for the contact page. Simply create a new php file, call it something like page-contact.php, copy and paste the code from the page you’re using for contact at the moment, but delete the code that says:

    // If comments are open or we have at least one comment, load up the comment template.
    					if ( comments_open() || get_comments_number() ) {

    Then apply this template on the contact page from the admin panel. I hope it works.

    Hello antonietta456,
    I’m new to wordpress, i’ve had a look but can’t find where my contact page is on the server, would you know which directory said created page might be located ?

    Actually i’ve fixed this now, many thanks again!
