Support » Fixing WordPress » Can't see WP or access wp-admin

    Okay, I was working on WP last night and here is a list of what I did.

    1) Replaced some pics with new ones I created in the theme, using the same name they used, no big deal.

    2) deactivated a plugin and then deleted it, removed it via FTP, and everything was fine.

    3) deactivated another plugin, but did not remove it, in case there is an update to it.

    4) After a little research I found that most template creators don’t add the line

    add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' );

    to their theme, so I added it.

    That is when I lost view of the site and admin panel. I can’t access my wp-admin, or the WP site. I removed the line of code from functions.php, but I still can’t access the site! I’m not sure what to do at this point…

    Is there a way to not do a reinstall and lose my current content, but to fix the issue via phpmyadmin or FTP?

    Thank you!

  • Download a new copy of your theme to your local computer. Then using FTP, replace the damaged functions.php file in your theme.

    If that does not work, change the name on your theme’s folder – which will force WP to default to twentytwelve and you should be able to login again – then delete and reinstall the theme.

    It’s NEVER a good idea to modify theme files that way. Using a Child Theme is a better approach –

    Thank you WPyogi, that did the trick! I will read up on child themes now.
