I came back to my site after a long absence and started updating plugins. After updating the W3 plugin, the page for my site or my wp-apmin access seems to load in the sense that the blue progress line under the main search bar in safari seems to complete, but all I see is a total blank.

I’ve looked in the forums. Some of the tasks are too hard for me to contemplate without a strong drink but I did empty my cache and also deactivate active plugins from my phpmyadmin. Had no effect. Also tried firefox to see if browser affects. Page doesn’t even seem to load there.

Will do the other stuff if necessary but hoping there’s a simpler fix?

  • My first thought is to make certain the permissions are still correct on your top level Word Press directories and files. With some exceptions for security purposes (i.e. wp-config.php at 640), most of your top level WP directories should be 755 and most top level files 644.

Disclaimer: I’m still getting my feet wet on the back-end of WP. This was just the first thing that came to mind. All the best with getting your problem corrected.

W3 Total cache – Version 0.9.5.1 is incompatible with WordPress 4.7 and you may need to remove it to access your site (Removing the plugin directory is not enough, you also need to remove the db.php, advanced-cache.php and object-cache.php files manually from the wp-content/ directory).
