can't see Archive page template option

Hi! I want to create an archives page, and the theme I’m using has a built in archives.php template, but when I go to create the page I can’t see the dropdown menu to choose the “archives” template instead of the default one. According to all the tutorials I’ve seen it’s supposed to be under the “Page Attributes” box, but it’s missing. Help?
