  • WP 5.0.7, Classic Editor
    Suffusion Child Theme, 4.4.9
Browsers, latest versions of Firefox and Chrome
    PHP version 7.2.7

I’ve made significant changes to this page, but I can’t save them—the “update” button does not function. Fortunately, I have copied the latest version to a text file.

The same thing happened a few yrs ago, and others chimed in to my support post saying that they had similar experiences. As suddenly as the problem occurred, it fixed itself.

This time, two days have passed, and still no luck. I continue to update the page and to save it offline.

    Can someone help?

    Many thanks, Anna

  • Hi! @type-historian

Can you please try to open your site in a different browser or clean the history and cookies, it should work.

Let us know if you still face this issue, and make sure your Browser and WordPress is updated.

    Thanks!

P.S. I CAN save other pages, menu and widget settings, etc. at the same site. For some crazy reason, THIS page is different?

    Hi Vishal,

Many thanks for your prompt response! My preferred browser is Firefox, where I am signed in. I use Chrome [usually not signed in] to view content as it appears to site visitors.

This time, I signed in to Chrome and tried to update the page. The resulting error message reads: Not Acceptable! An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.

    Now what?

Thanks again for trying to help me, Anna

    I have tried these strategies:

    1) Restore the oldest revision—there are four including an auto-save. Conclusion: This page used to display normally; suddenly it doesn’t.

    2) Delete the page and create a new one from my text file of the code view. Interesting: after deleting the page, the revision history persists.

In both scenarios, the same error message is return when attempting to update or publish:

“Not Acceptable! An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.”

This page is important because it is the preface for 10 child pages. All of the child pages work perfectly. All other pages, widgets, menus, etc. work perfectly.

What can I do to fix this problem?

A thousand thanks for helping me, Anna

To isolate the problem, I copied passages one-at-a-time into a new page:

    http://history.typeheritage.com/test-preface/

By doing so, I narrowed it down to this:

    <a title="William Morris, Arts and Crafts Movement" href="http://history.typeheritage.com/wp-content/uploads/Permanent/Chapter.jpg">Morris’ <em>Troy</em>#<em>=Chaucer</em># types</a>.

Including the above text invoked the Error Message: “Not Acceptable! An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.”

Everything before and after the problem area displayed perfectly, and the link worked.

    For the Record

Minor text and link edits solved the problem. I hope my strategy will help others who suffer the same WordPress woes!
