This is not a bug a WordPress but an issue specific to your site. Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I’ve switched to the default theme already. Considering the fact that it didn’t happen until I updated, I don’t see how it can’t be possible that it’s a bug. I’ve had other problems since updating, which I’m hoping will be resolved soon.
Look around. Do you see many other people with exactly the same problem out of the 2 million current users of WordPress 3.8? I don’t – despite hanging around here 12 hours a day 5 days a week. So it stands to reason that this is site specific, yes?
Can you please try the rest of the steps I suggested above?
Is there an option to edit them?
What happens when you try to edit the category name?

Anyway, I fixed it by going into phpMyAdmin and editing some data in the terms table. Thus, I assume it was just a glitch.

@petrutiglar – I could go to the ‘Edit’ page, but it would result in ‘Category not updated.’ on the next page, which is the Categories page. I fixed it by going into phpMyAdmin, going to the terms table, deleting the odd and lonely blank row, and editing the category I was originally trying to edit. Now I can successfully edit categories. 😀

Sounds like you had a minor database error – which is (as I suggested) site specific. I’d recommend that you repair all of your database tables now to rule out the possibility of other db errors causing problems.
