• Using the WordPress dashboard, I can put widgets in the main sidebar as expected, but not in the secondary sidebar or footers. I’ve tried both the 2010 and 2011 themes (plain vanilla), but no joy. The HostGator tech thinks the problem’s in the database. She suggests I delete the whole WordPress installation and start over. Can anyone suggest a less radical step? I can read programs, but don’t know PHP at all.

  • Describe what happens. You drag a widget to a footer sidebar and it doesn’t drag? It does drag and it doesn’t save? It drags and saves but just doesn’t show up? Be as descriptive as you can and please post a URL.

I can drag it, but I can only drop it into the primary sidebar. The Widgets screen shows a secondary sidebar and four footer areas, but the widget won’t drop into them. No “receptacle” box shows up to catch it.
