[resolved] Can't post via email (10 posts)

I'm trying to setup posting via email.
I set the secret mail drop in the admin options.
I sent an email to that address.
    It did not post.

I searched the forums and found some old references to this problem.
I followed what was recommended (reading the codex below).
    I read the http://codex.wordpress.org/Blog_by_Email
It mentions invoking /installdir/wp-mail.php with my browser or cron.
I don't find that directory or php file. It looks like that is an old reference.

    Am I missing something still?

If your WordPress blog is located at http://www.mysite.com, then you need to display http://www.mysite.com/wp-mail.php in your browser to "execute" the blog-by-email function.

installdir refers to the directory WordPress is installed in. You should see wp-mail.php in that directory. So you should see it in http://sugarmtnfarm.com/blog/.

http://sugarmtnfarm.com/blog/ is a Blogger blog, not a WordPress blog....

    Gads! I feel silly!
    Works great now.

    Thank you for the help!

PS. http://SugarMtnFarm.com/blog/ is my main blog which is currently on Blogger but which will soon be on WordPress. The blog in question is http://NoNAIS.org/ which is about the National Animal Identification System - a by-product of our wonderful elastic Patriot Act. Check it out.

Do I really need to go to /blog/wp-mail.php every time there´s emails sent? Then it says below tha page "Mission complete, message 1 deleted." and it appears in the blog. Is that the way it should work??

Yes, wp-mail.php needs to be run before a post-by-email is published.

Instead of manually running it in your browser (which would be pretty tedious!), you can include it in a cron job, so that it is automatically scheduled to run, say, once an hour, or once a day, etc.

Go to http://codex.wordpress.org/Blog_by_Email#Cron_Job_Activation for more information.

    Blog by Email says:

"Use one of the following options:

    * Use your web browser to view http://yourwebdomain/installdir/wp-mail.php immediately after you send an email to your posting address.

    * Use the WP-Cron (http://www.skippy.net/blog/2005/05/26/plugin-wp-cron/) WP-Mail plugin.

    * Set up a cron job to periodically view http://example.com/installdir/wp-mail.php using a command-line HTTP agent such as wget, curl, or GET.
