• I am having the same exact problem that was described in a WordPress.com support forum post from a couple years ago (but I can’t get help there because I host my own WordPress site): All of a sudden, I can’t comment on blogs that I have been regularly reading (and commenting on) for a while.

From what I gathered from lessepea’s earlier forum post, I need to have Support “unspam me.” A couple members posted that it seemed like a random Akismet problem.

It just doesn’t make any sense, because I’ve been commenting on these blogs for a while now with no problem – now, when I type and click “submit” on a comment, the page re-loads (which makes me think that it worked) but then my comment just doesn’t show up! (And these are blogs that I know do not require comment moderation first.) If I copy and paste what I typed before to try again, I get a “duplicate comment” message – but my comment still doesn’t show? Please help, so frustrated 🙁

The blog I need help with is http://www.prayersandapples.com.

If Akismet is flagging you as spam on multiple sites, then when those sites mark your comments as not-spam, Akismet gets notified of that fact and will learn over time.

There’s no way for you to “force” it, because that would sort of defeat the purpose. If somebody could force their posts not to be recognized as spam, then spammers would be able to do it too.

That makes sense – but on the earlier forum thread (here), the user said that the issue was resolved after the Support team unspammed her?

Some of these blogs are pretty big, so I don’t know how frequently they go through all of their spam.. Plus, it’s happening on every single blog I go to – I can’t email every blog each time and ask them to unspam my comment. I completely get what you said, I’m just wondering what else I can do? It just doesn’t seem right that all of a sudden I’m never going to be able to post blog comments anywhere unless the admin happens to see me when they’re checking their spam folder.

I think that poster was probably confused. The process is automatic when blog authors start marking comments as “not-spam”. Which means it takes time and patience.

I emailed the support team at Akismet (via a contact form on their website) and they just replied today – they said they’re sorry and everything’s all fixed now – I just tried commenting and now it works! All resolved!

I am having the same exact problem as you describe. For the past 2 months or so I haven’t been able to comment on a single wordpress blog, many of which I’d commented on many time previously. I get the same page reloading but no trace of the comment and the same error message if I try to repost the comment. One blog owner told me that she’d found me in the spam and I also informed another blogger, but I can’t expect every blogger, many who are big bloggers, to unspam me. I am writing to Akismet right now to see if they can unmark me as spam!

My blogs have the same issue.

The problem was resolved when I “inactivate” Jetpack Comment.

    My WP configuration:
    WP 3.5.2
    Jetpack: 2.3.1

There’s a WordPress blog I want to comment on, so I registered on WordPress, but the blog still won’t let me log in (even though it clearly accepts comments). Does it take time for a new log-in name to propagate through the system?

@calebmurdock: These forums are for self-hosted WordPress sites only. Please try asking your question on http://en.forums.wordpress.com/

    Thank you.

I’ve gone to that other site and found no answers. WordPress is a mess, isn’t it? All I want to do is to comment on a post on a WordPress blog.

WordPress.com sent me back here. They said that http://www.atone.me is a WordPress.org blog.

So how do I register so that I can post on that blog?

You have to contact the owners of that site – they control who can register and/or comment. WordPress.org only provides software, but has no direct connection to a site that uses the software.

WordPress.COM is a network of sites hosted by WordPress.COM. It’s fundamentally different. I would not call it a mess, however, perhaps a bit confusing : ).

    See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

There seems to be no way to contact the owner of the blog except through comments — yet I can’t comment.

Yes, WordPress is a mess. Both sites have the same logo, so it is clearly the same organization. I have no problem posting on Blogspot blogs.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any more information about that site than you do. If it’s not open to public registration and/or comment, that’s the owner’s choice, not WordPress.

WordPress is free, open-source software and these 100% volunteer forums simply provide access to the software and some help for using the software.

I’m sorry there isn’t anything more we can do to help you with this.

Well, let me ask you this: On each post on that blog there is a link for leaving a reply, and that takes me to a log-in screen. Are log-ins handled by WordPress, or are log-ins handled by the individual blog? If log-ins are controlled by WordPress (as they are by Blogger on their site), then can you please tell me how to register on WordPress.org? I thought that I did, but apparently I didn’t.
