Can’t pick custom user role as author

Hello,

I’ve made a custom user role, which I need to put as author for a specific custom post type. I can’t use “Author” as the custom role needs restricted access and only access to their own post made with custom post type.

At the moment I’ve made the custom user role with PublishPress Capabilities and granted access to the different capabilities I want the role to have. I’ve tried with both Role Level 2 and 7, but the users doesn’t show up in the author field under the custom post.

Edit: I can add the custom user role as author after I gave the role access to edit posts, but it seems they get more capabilities than just edit posts, which I would prefer they didn’t have.
