• I have been learning WP via some lynda.com tutorials and I installed bitnami and am running wordpress locally (if that’s the right term) and I have just upgraded to windows 10 and now I cannot access the site.

Any suggestions? I have done a lot of work and hope it’s not lost.

  • – What do you see when you open a browser and type 127.0.0.1 in the address bar? If there is an error message such as 404, or “Unable to connect” or, “This page can’t be displayed” or even if the page is just completely blank with no message (that can be a clue also)
…please tell us exactly what the error message says.

    – When you open the Bitnami WordPress Stack Manger Tool and visit the Manage Servers tab, what is the status of MySQL and Apache? Are they both green lights with a status of “Running”? Or something different?

    Here’s what I see:

    This site can’t be reached

    127.0.0.1 refused to connect.
    Try:
    Reloading the page
    Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
    ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

In that Manage Servers tab is nothing. It’s blank. 🙁

That seems to be a standard Chrome response to a server that can’t be reached.

I’m assuming you attempted to start the services from the stack manger and it failed, so it seems likely that neither the Apache server, or MySQL are operational. Even in a stopped state, the stack manager should indicate “Stopped” with a red light.

My best guess is that during the Win10 upgrade process, windows uninstalled or disabled the web service(s) provided by the Bitnami stack.

If you have no reason for IIS services or any related development projects, you can probably eliminate the possibility of IIS related issues completely (for peace of mind) by using the run dialog and “optionalfeatures”. Uncheck the “Internet Information Services” box and reboot the machine.

Then you may need to check in over at the Bitnami support discussions and see how others have handled reinstalling the services on Win10 with a minimal risk of loss to your existing work. There may be a way to reinstall the services without actually reinstalling the stack, but I don’t know enough about Bitnami to say for sure.
