Support » Fixing WordPress » “can’t make connection to database”

  • To make a long story short, some of my mysql database table got fried, and now WP will only cough up the “can’t make connection to database” error.

I’m backed up using the backing up plugin, the one that handles things behind the scenes. Luckily I retired the original weblog and started fresh, so the are only 30 some posts, but there is a discussion I really don’t want to lose, more than 150 comments.

What’s the best way to proceed? Do I strip all wordpress files out, reinstall, and restore?

    Any help much appreciated.

  • Deleting and replacing files will not fix a “fried” database. The files and the database are completely separate. You may want to try the database repair utility in the WP-DBManager plugin.

That might work — but I can’t even get to the admin panel to install the database manager plugin you suggest.

    Anybody have another suggestion? Please?

I would access the database directly via phpmyadmin or navicat..export the comments table, re install a fresh version of wordpress and then import the comments table into the new database.
