Can’t reset either. Typed my email address and captcha code ad nauseum… Tried going through FTP as well. Password denied.

Have you asked your hosting providers for your FTP credentials?
Ok – got into FTP. looked for functions.php and found admin-functions.php
inside the file it said:
* This file is deprecated, use ‘wp-admin/includes/admin.php’ instead.
went to admin.php and added the code and uploaded. still cannot login.
The rest of the suggestions either require my already being logged in, or is too technical for my comfort level.
Why doesn’t the email reset work? It would seem there is something wrong with my account?
Leave the WordPress core file alone. This has nothing to do with core. Have you heard back from your hosts yet?

You’re looking for your theme’s functions.php file, not an admin file. Remove the code you added to admin.php ASAP before it causes any unforeseen problems, then add it to your theme’s functions.php file.

(Edit: When is 1 minute too slow for a reply? When Esmi is being awesome as always.)
Gotcha – ok, fixed the admin file and edited the theme’s functions file. still no dice.
Yes – I heard back from my hosts. Problem solved. That’s how I’m able to get into my FTP. IS there something else they could be doing that’s affecting my ability to log into my admin panel for my site?
Thanks for the quick replies, gents!
What exactly happens when you try to login?
PS: some of us are female. 🙂
well now – that’s my bad!
Nothing happens. I hit login and the page refreshes to itself. Same thing when I try to send for an email to change password. It just refreshes to itself. I cleared all cookies and cache.
Try:
– switching to the default theme automatically by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
tried the first 2. No dice. The last option scares me a bit but I’m in the process…
Well now – that did it… Whew!!!
esmi, you rock!!!
Thanks for the help!
