I changed one of the wordfence settings: allow cookies to this domain only or something to that effect and at the same time changed domains for my wordpress site and can no longer login via wordpress. Is there a way to change the settings on the file system as I only have ssh access now.

  • To immediately get access to your site, please use the control panel file manager for your site and rename the Wordfence directory usually found in the folder : public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence

Depending on why you were locked out, if you re-enable Wordfence (by naming the directory back), you may be locked out again as it remembers all the settings when it’s re-enabled. You can try re-enabling Wordfence and modifying the firewall or other settings that caused you to be locked out. If you are immediately locked out again, you can use the process below to reinstall Wordfence without being locked out:

    1. Delete the Wordfence directory as described above
    2. Next install the Wordfence Assistant plugin which will allow you to disable the Wordfence firewall: http://wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence-assistant/
    3. After the firewall is disabled, you can reinstall Wordfence and modify the settings that caused the lock out

This didn’t end up being a wordfence problem… The wp-options->siteurl in the database was updated with the correct url but wasn’t updated in wp-config.php COOKIE_DOMAIN value. Thank you for the quick response and renaming the wordfence directory worked well!
