Support » Fixing WordPress » Can't log-in to admin panel "The connection was reset"

  • Hey everyone,

I have noticed a lot of similar problems in the support forums, but none of the answers have helped thus far.

I am currently running 3 WordPress based websites on one server. Last night I was making edits, but I can no longer sign into ANY of the three websites, ruling out any plug-ins on the one website I was working on. When I try to log into the /wp-admin I get a “The connection was reset” page.

I called by host (Go Daddy) to see what the problem could be, but they say there is no problem on their end. I figure since the problem is in all three websites, the problem MUST be on the server, but also noticed that all the wp folders and files for my MAIN website are located in the root, so perhaps there is a chance that something here is to blame. (Note, I was not editing the root website at the time).

I tried renaming (all) the .htaccess files, and I checked php.ini and the memory was already set to 64M. Same in /wp-config, so I’m a bit at a loss here.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :/

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Have you tried different browsers?

Yes, I tried both Firefox and Safari on my computer, and I tried using my roommates computer (different OS, too), unfortunately.

    No luck 🙁 Thanks, though

Try clearing the cache Firefox, options, advance, network, clear, restart the computer

There was another thread about GoDaddy and this issue. They had to get to “advanced level support” to resolve this:

Dear ***, Thank you for contacting Hosting Support regarding ***.com. I understand you were seeing connection reset errors when posting. We have confirmed this problem is due to modsecurity rules in place to protect the server and websites from automated attacks. The error and apache access logs won’t show this issue but our admins have confirmed it and whitelisted your IP address ***. Please contact us if you have any further issues. Regards, ***. I’d recommend trying to contact GoDaddy again.

Thanks for your help! I ended up spending the better part of an hour on the phone with GoDaddy.

The problem ended up being with one of my WordPress installations. For some reason, it took down all three of my websites, even though the installation wasn’t in the root.

I was able to solve it by deleting some files haphazardly from the installation I was working on when it went down, and the problem resolved itself. I re-installed WordPress over that domain. Fortunately, it wasn’t a domain I was relying on.

Hi, I have similar issue, that happened after I copy-pasted files from other installation, to a new folder and created a new site by changing just wp-config.php

3 websites doesn’t let me log in to control panel. Is there a way I can fix it without reinstalling wordpress?
