Support » Fixing WordPress » Can’t locate files uploaded by ftp

  • Hi

The site i am working on has dozens of .docs and .pdfs, so I uploaded them all in one hit using my ftp client to the wordpress uploads folder, unfortunately when trying to add links to them on pages the wordpress (add media) file browser can’t locate them on the server even though they are in the same folder as the files i have uploaded using the wordpress file browser/uploader.

    Any ideas?

The WordPress media library keeps a “Catalogue” of everything that it has uploaded. Consequently, it won’t be able to find anything that you uploaded outside of WordPress’ uploader (using an FTP client, for example).

To get around this, either link to the files directly, or upload them again using “Add New” under the “Media” section of the admin panels.

Hi: I did the same thing that nigelt74 did (guess I should have searched the forum first!) and loaded my pdfs directly into the ftp sub folder. The reason I did that was because the “Upload” function wouldn’t let me upload anything over 2MB–and my pdfs are between 4 & 6. Any ideas how to work around? I can’t reduce the size of the pdfs significantly with zip because they include color photos. Appreciate any ideas!
