• Hello,

I recently installed a new WP site and was able to install a few Themes and Plugins to try out. However, I am suddenly not able to install any Themes or Plugins anymore, as I get the error message: “Installation failed: There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.Learn more about debugging in WordPress.”

I also get this other error message: “Installation failed: 500 Internal Server Error <!–[if lte IE 6]><![endif]–> Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. ”

I disabled the only two plugins that I currently have installed and deleted all Themes, except the one currently in use, but this made no difference.

Any idea what I could check?

    Thanks.

What is very strange is that I never installed the All In One SEO Pro version plugin. I only installed the free version. Not sure why this Pro version got referenced in the log.

I will try to follow up with my hosting provider. However, given that I cannot assure to them that this “URL in the path” is the cause of my issue and the fact that this only appeared in the log once but it is not a recurring problem that I could easily replicate for them to see, I am not sure that they will actually do something about it. Unfortunately, from previous contact I have had with them, they are not too eager to help solve problems with their service that are unusual. I will give it a try.

    I greatly appreciate your help.

    AIOSEO dev here.

What you’re seeing is a small permissions bug in our plugin that only happens on IIS servers. You’re seeing a link to the Pro version on our site because it has to do with how we add our menu (that has an upsell link) to the admin bar. However, I don’t see this issue affecting your site any other way besides the warning that is being logged. I think you need to look elsewhere.

To be frank, Windows hosting is notoriously bad for WordPress websites so I would highly recommend you to switch to Apache or Nginx instead.

I absolutely agree with this. If it’s an option for you to switch, absolutely nothing bad can come from it.
