 * Hi [@samuelzee](https://wordpress.org/support/users/samuelzee/) sorry about that!
   Hoping I get make that right.
 * Do you get any error message when activating the plugin? Do you see the menu
   items?
 * Is there any chance that you can enable the so called “matomo safe mode” as described
   in [https://matomo.org/faq/wordpress/i-have-a-problem-how-do-i-troubleshoot-and-enable-wp_debug/](https://matomo.org/faq/wordpress/i-have-a-problem-how-do-i-troubleshoot-and-enable-wp_debug/)
   and test it again? Ideally then you would be able to view the system report under
   diagnotics.
 * Could you send us the report either by email to [wordpress@matomo.org](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/cant-install-although-php-version-is-fine/wordpress@matomo.org?output_format=md)
   or paste it here as a comment? (it should be anonymised)

 * [@samuelzee](https://wordpress.org/support/users/samuelzee/) BTW do you mind
   checking in your `wp-config.php` what your DB_CHARSET variable is set to in case
   you know how to look this up?

 * [@samuelzee](https://wordpress.org/support/users/samuelzee/) fyi we released
   a new version where we were handling the database charset better. Installation
   might work now. You can also try to reset the plugin see [https://matomo.org/faq/wordpress/how-do-i-delete-or-reset-the-matomo-for-wordpress-data-completely/](https://matomo.org/faq/wordpress/how-do-i-delete-or-reset-the-matomo-for-wordpress-data-completely/)
   to potentially fix any issue. Let me know if you’re still having the issue but
   things might just work fine now.
