I’m having a hard time getting the subdomain to work as expected. It seems to have installed fine, but I get an internal server error when trying to view any part of the dashboard, and a default page from the web server when trying to visit the site itself.

I’ve run through what troubleshooting issues I could find but to no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Amy

a default page from the web server when trying to visit the site itself.

When you made your subdomain, did you point it to the /public_html/ or root location of your WordPress install, or let it point to it’s own folder?

Well, guess I’m not really sure. Just let WordPress do its thing. This is the site URL WordPress made:
    http://chocolate.arnamy1.com/

Is there somewhere in WordPress to check what you’re asking or do I need to do that on my host’s account setings?

    It’s not a WordPress thing 😉 It’s your host’s account settings.

You have to make subdomains point to /public_html. And it looks like it’s working now (i.e. I can get to http://chocolate.arnamy1.com/wp-admin/ and see the login page)
