Support » Installing WordPress » Can’t get to installation page

  • I am on cpanel and I believe I have uploaded all the files (i thought) and then I type in what it says to do (type in http://example.com/wp-admin/install) and it says the link is broken. It says the files are in public_ftp/incoming for my website.

I have no idea what else to do. If someone could help me, that would be great because I have been at this all weekend.

You need to move them from public_ftp/incoming to public_html you can do this using the cpanal file manager. Go to file manager and get to the public_ftp/imcoming directory then check the box next to the WordPress directory and you can drag and drop it into the public_html directory on the left.

Okay so I did that but its still given me the old link is broken. What should I do now?

Did you put it directly in public_html or in a subdirectory like WordPress? If it is in public_html you should be able to install by going to http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php

Its says it is in the public html file. I have the wp-config.php file (not the sample one) though during uploading I know certain files wouldn’t upload that had the same name (ie. 2 different index.php in different folders) so I didn’t overwrite the files. So I went one by one uploading the files to the ftp directory. So am I making this more difficult than it should?

if this is a fresh install, try deleting all the files in the public_html folder and starting again with a fresh download of wordpress. Try using filezilla to upload to the host instead of the hosts filemanager…
