Can't Get Themes To Work

I have tried everything I can think of to get bbpress themes to work. I have a bbpress folder inside my theme folder (../mytheme/bbpress) I have put all the modified css and php files inside it but it doesn’t seem to change any of the design of the forums. Am I missing something? I’ve tried adding add_theme_support( 'bbpress' ); to my themes functions.php file and still there is no change.
Also, although I’m logged into wordpress.org, the bbpress.org keeps indicating that I’m not logged into the site so I can’t post on the forums there either.
I know that I might be able to copy the php files directly into the root of my theme but the theme is unique and I don’t want to overwrite any of the theme’s base files either.
