• Hi everyone,

I have domain.com (wordpress install) and I want to add test.domain.com

I updated by DNS, added the “test” subdomain in cpanel, installed WPMS per the instructions, updated htaccess/wpconfig – and added the “site” in WPMS. But, when I try to visit the new subdomain, it’s simply the default empty directory page that’s created when you make a subdomain in cpanel.

Anyone know what I did wrong?

    Thank you

First of all, check if your hosting account allow you to create wildcard subdomains?

Second, when you create multisite, you do not need to create the subdomain in cPanel – the site will do this for you. Have you tried to create a subsite without first creating a subdomain in the cPanel? That will tell you whether you got the multisite part working, or whether that’s part of the problem.

    Remove the ‘test’ subdomain.

As Bet Hannon said – if you can create wildcard subdomains, all you need to do is add an asterisk (*) as the subdomain.

You can keep the test subdomain, provided you make sure it’s HTML root is the same as the main domain.

    Example:

    domain.com has a root of /home/user/public_html/

    test.domain.com defaults to a root of /home/user/public_html/test/

Change test to a root of /home/user/public_html/

Also go check with your host to see if they support wildcard subdomains. Not all do for all hosting packages.
