  • I’ve downloaded a theme that I liked for my website. I just can’t get it to come up on my website. Can anyone give me a step by step instruction…. This is the first website I’ve tried putting together.

  • I’m undoubtedly not the right person to help you, but I feel your distress, so I’ll try. I’m only a few months ahead of you 🙂

First, when you’re in your dashboard, and you click on “Themes” in the sidebar (under appearance), does the theme you chose show up?

If it does, then all you should need to do is click “activate” under the picture of the theme. If you’ve done that and it doesn’t appear when you reload your webpage, that’s over my head.

If it doesn’t appear when you look at themes in the dashboard, tell us that and I (or someone else) will tell you how to make it appear.

The only themes that appear are the basic ones. Not the one I downloaded. Right now, I took the theme file and zip’ed it (I read that was something I should be doing).

    Any help from there?

I can’t find the word press download in my computer.

you need to upload the whole theme folder via ftp to your directory /wp-content/themes/.

The you will be able to activate the theme in your backend

Yes – you can also go to your dashboard, go to “appearance” on your left sidebar and choose “add new themes.” Put the name of your theme in the search box and search for it. If you find it, you can download it there – instead of going to your computer, it will go directly into the correct folder on your site. That way you skip the whole business of moving it from your computer to your site via ftp.

If it’s not there, you’ll need to use an FTP client (application) to move it there. Do you know how to do that?

I’ve uploaded a theme, Autofocus, via FTP and even with the control panel in GoDaddy. However, when I try to choose/select/activate it in the backend system of, I cannot because the theme doesn’t appear. Even if I do select a default theme, when I click on my site it does not change.

    My WP blog:

The front end shows Kubrick, but my back end is set to some default theme.

    Please, help.

The path to the theme should be like this:

sometimes, people zip the themes the wrong way, which makes it:

    All the files should be:

    and so on…

I don’t know if this the solution, but it sounds like something like this…
