Reset TinyMCE Advanced’s settings. Save. Make any changes you want to the editor toolbar(s). Save. Clear browser cache. Reload the Edit Post screen and try again.

Using WordPress version 4.3.1 with the Twenty Sixteen theme (with a child theme). I am not exactly sure when the default Visual Editor stopped working (the tab is there but none of the button display nor does the content in the edit field) so I downloaded and installed TinyMCE Advanced Version 4.2.5. I have activated the plug-in and I still do not have any sort of Visual editing abilities. I have cleared my cache, used a browser that have never opened this WordPress site, I have tried re-installing WordPress. I’ve tried deactivating and reactivating the plug-in. Nothing seems to be working.

    What else should I try?

It’s been resolved. Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it.

Something deep inside my up to date installation of WordPress is preventing both the TinyMCE Advanced and the default plug-in from letting the Visual editor work as expected. So I need to go back to my searches of forum posts to figure out what’s causing this. As I mentioned, the Visual editor stopped working after updating to WordPress version 4.3.1.

I have installed a new theme, cleared my cache, I have the latest wordpress version and I have 2 websites. My one website has an older wordpress version and Version: 3.4.9 (2012-02-23) installed. The plug in works PERFECT. Now, my newer website has the latest WordPress 4.3.1 running SimpleMag theme AND your newest update of the plugin. When I try to edit posts, the editor is some default editor and only the older version has the editor that I want. What happened to this plug in. Please help! Thank you!

The first thing to check when the editor is not working is errors in the browser console. If there are any, search around for an answer by pasting (most of) the error message in the search engine. If nothing meaningful comes up, start a new thread on the support forum.

Also, installing TinyMCE Advanced when the default TinyMCE (Visual Editor) is not working will not fix it 🙂
